Our Mission
"No more
homeless pets"
For those that have no home, the journey is endless.
Our
Goals
1. Build and maintain a humane,
safe, compassionate sheltered facility for all abandoned,
neglected and
abused
companion animals.
2. Work to reduce animal
euthanasia rates, and ultimately, to eliminate the need for euthanizing
unwanted pets.
3. Work to reunite lost animals
with their owners.
4. Adopt out homeless animals through a
carefully administered adoption program that includes:
• Significant screening
• Sterilizing all pets before they
go to their new homes
5. Dedicate ourselves to enhancing
community awareness of critical animal issues and
appropriate solutions
through education and by
example:
• The curability of the pet
overpopulation
• The virtue and benefits of
responsible pet ownership
• To promote sterilizing all dogs
and cats
6. To sponsor low cost sterilization
and vaccination clinics
7. Work to reduce the number of
animals relinquished to shelters.
8. Create a network of volunteers
dedicated to promoting our Mission
9. Aid in preventing the abuse of,
and cruelty to animals.
10. Promote animal welfare through programs
and services that mutually benefit animals and
people.
11. Teach children to be humane and
responsible pet owners.
Our
History
The
Eastern Montana Humane Society began in January of 2005 in Baker,
Montana when we became incorporated and received 501 (c) (3) status
(non-profit, tax-exempt). We serve eastern Montana and western North
Dakota. The dream of this facility becoming a reality is shared by many
citizens of the Baker community, fundraising has been ongoing since the
beginning.
The
EMHS is the owner of 7 acres of land which was donated by Dirk and Lori
Kuntz. Jasen and Heidi Wyrick of Wyrick Construction donated leveling of
the land, Mike and Dorinda Gunderson the water line and well
pit labor, Jason
Graham with C & M Oilfield Service - the trusses would have never gotten
up without the boom truck (see photos below),
Karen and Kenny Griffith
the trailer house for storage.
A BIG THANKS to our donors and volunteers for, without them, none of
this would be possible!
A very special thanks goes to Lisa
Crow and Cindy Atkins for being the founders and driving force behind
this organization.
Various fund raisers have been held to raise money to pour stem walls
and footings, form up to pour pad and start putting the building
together. All of the outer building material has been purchased, but
more funds are needed for the interior of the building such as the
electrical and plumbing. With the completion of the facilities we will
have a permanent structure to provide shelter for homeless pets. We will
provide a place for people to board their animals when away from home
and hold obedience classes and educational workshops.

The EMHS is striving to involve the community in it's fundraising
attempts.
We have received a grant for $3500 for spay/neuter. We also received a
grant from MACA (Montana Animal Care Association) to assist in spaying and neutering. All this and more has
gone into the spaying and neutering of animals to help cut down on the
overpopulation of animals in the city, county and all of eastern Montana
and western North Dakota. To date we have spayed/neutered and vaccinated
over 300 animals
Thank you to the Cedar Creek Oil & Gas Company out of Bloomington, MN for
the $5000 donation. They have wells in the Baker area and even though
they pay taxes on them they wanted to give back directly to the people
who serve the community.
We have had some wonderful exposure by the press with articles
introducing us to the public in the Glendive Ranger Review and
Emily Boyles with KXGN TV and
radio of Glendive. The Ekalaka
Eagle, Fallon County Times and Glendive Ranger Review runs a Pet of the
Week. We cannot thank these business enough for
their support -- it has helped us along our way immensely.
We have established a deal with Schering Plough Animal Health Corporation
for discounted prices on vaccinations. Rabies vaccinations are done at
the veterinary clinic. With the help of the wonderful people at Runnings
we have qualified for a pet food program through Hill's Pet Nutrition.
Runnings has also made us a great litter deal at 84 bags per pallet, and
donated their opened bags of food.
We assist Beach, ND and Glendive, MT veterinary clinics in locating
homes for animals that are surrendered or found.
As of December 2007 we have placed over 200+ homeless dogs and cats,
without a permanent structure. We are very proud of these numbers.
Helping the homeless and neglected animals of this community is number
one on our list.
